Handcrafted in the styles of our forefathers.
Chet’s Three Rules for Adirondack Furniture...
1. It
must be comfortable
2. It
must be durable and built to last for generations
3. It must be consistent with the genre
When you think
of
furniture
as an heirloom
that will last for generations
--
think of solid wood furniture
-
crafted
from the finest woods of North American
and think of Chet Chapin Woodworking.
There is no comparison between properly
prepared walnut,
hard rock maple
or
cherry to any wood anywhere in the world.
The Chapin family—furniture crafters in the Americas since the 1600s - have been
working with the above along with native
hardwoods:
oak, silver maple, ash, alder, birch, poplar, madrone, tanoak (western beech) as
well as the
softwoods:
western red cedar, eastern red
cedar, southern yellow pine, spruce, douglas fir,
and pine -- for generations.
Chet
Chapin Woodworking and Restoration has developed a line
of garden and patio furniture
to compliment our original high-end lines of early American reproductions --
Chet Chapin Woodworking Adirondacks.
Based on the rustic country furniture of the late 19th century upper New York Adirondack region — our Chet Chapin Woodworking Adirondack line will transform any yard or porch to a lazy summer haven.
About the Wood:
Unless otherwise requested, all Chet Chapin Woodworking Adirondack natural
stained and sealed furniture is made of Western Red Cedar — a wood known for its
strength and rustic charm. It is so
strong, in fact, that cedar boxes have been discovered in the tombs of the
pharaohs – thousands of years old and still intact.
This cedar comes direct from the mill with all of its perfections and
imperfections.
The knots and swirls
natural to Western Red Cedar are inherent to the furniture and add depth and
character.
All hand painted furniture is made of American hardwoods.
I personally sort the wood for strength only – always using 1 ½ inch thick
lumber for my heavy duty chairs. I
work the wood as little as possible to maintain an elegant rustic country look.
Using only the finest outdoor stains and sealants Chet Chapin furniture is build
to last…with its extra bracing, thicker wood and solid joints the quality is
second to none. If something should
prove defective, however, I will repair it at no charge. This, of course, does
not include physical damage not caused by product defect or normal wear and
tear.
I understand that cheaper furniture is available…but it can not and does not compare to the quality of wood, style and function characteristic of all Chet Chapin Woodworking furniture… handcrafted in Amador County USA. Buy it once and it will last a lifetime. And, as always, thank you for considering my furniture.
